Description: Estate sale find. Retired tenured professor UNL in anthropology. Medium sized Shipibo figural vessel ( possible fertility vessel I’ve been told) dating to the mid-20th Century - 1940’s - late 50’s. Painted in black and orange over a white background. Rounded lower body with bold designs. The face is well sculpted and painted across the lower portion. Unlike most with faces in low relief this vessel has highly dimensional, more realistic facial features. Condition is very good. Age appropriate signs or use and wear. NO repairs; some light to be expected paint loss and ONE small flea bite on the back of the neck. ( please see last 2 pictures..) The white ground color shows staining and light earthen deposits as is typical. Coated inside and out with a natural tree resin lacquer used as waterproofing. Overall a fine example with signs of tribal use.Nice honest piece.
