Description: You are buying an early 1948 Hallicrafters model T-54 television set for restoration or parts. Hallicrafters was one of the first companies to produce affordable TV's after World War II ended in 1945. Beginning in 1947-48, they offered a tabletop 7" set in several different cabinet styles using expertise they had developed as a military communications contractor during the war. Today these cute little TV's are rare and collectible. This particular TV is a Hallicrafters model T-54 chassis packaged in a "communications receiver" type metal cabinet designed by Raymond Loewy and similar to the company's amateur radio products. This one is an early production model because it includes channel 1 (which was discontinued by the FCC shortly after this set was made). This TV is untested and is offered for restoration. The metal cabinet has no dents, but needs cleaning and might benefit from repainting (see photos). The chassis appears to be complete, but will also need cleaning and some rust removal. I checked that the 7JP4 picture tube has a good filament (1.6 ohms), but it cannot be fully tested without a working T-54. All but one of the original knobs are present, but a few other parts are missing, including the speaker, some common types of tubes, and the rubber picture tube mask. I would prefer not to ship this TV. It's heavy (40+ pounds when packed), awkward, and fragile. So free local pickup in Bend, Oregon is preferred and will earn you a $10 discount from the purchase price. But if you must have this TV shipped I can do so. I have experience packing this kind of item for safe shipping, but the package will be fully insured just in case. This early TV is a good candidate for restoration and when restored would be quite collectible. If I had the time I'd restore it myself, but I don't.
