Description: Up for auction is an interesting vintage aviation novelty desk model. It is made entirely from brass. It does not have any maker marks; I cannot determine the country of origin. I have seen a few of these sell on Ebay over the years but the listings for those did not include much detail on origin either. This is a used vintage item; Please read the description above for a better idea of condition. This model appears to be a stylistic rendering of a Northrop F-5B or its cousin, the T-38 Talon. I have included in the photo gallery a few side-by-side shots of the brass model paired with a T-38 for comparison; the similarity is quite evident. You will notice in photos 7 & 8 that the front windscreen on the canopy is a three-piece design. This is identical to the 1957 N-156, which was the prototype for the F-5A freedom fighter, which gave way to the two-seat fighter/trainer, the F-5B which eventually morphed into the T-38 Talon. Based on the windscreen design I am guessing this model is from the late 1950s or early 1960s, but I cannot date the model definitively. The scale is not identical, but it should be obvious that the creator of this brass model had the Northrop fighter/training in mind when creating this piece. The model screws onto the base via a threaded insert in the tail of the jet. The model can be swiveled or twisted to take on different flight profiles. ATTENTION: the T-38 model IS NOT INCLUDED in the auction; it is for comparison purposes only. There is one other of these models on Ebay currently and the seller is asking $168. I'm a firm believer in letting the market dictate the price so I am starting my auction at $39.99 plus $9.99 shipping for USPS Ground Advantage delivery. Good luck with the auction.
