The Marie D'O dolls were started by a woman named Marie Madeleine Tancre, born in 1932 and died in 1987 in France.She worked in a dressmaking factory in 1950 and couldn't afford to buy any doll for her daughter, so she started to make some with clothes and rags and painted their faces. She got the idea to start a business and her husband took care of selling them. There are very few of these in existence and it is very difficult to get any information on them.
