Description: The Taíno were a historic Indigenous peoples of the Caribbean, whose culture has been continued today by Taíno descendant communities and Taíno revivalist communities. At the time of European contact in the late 15th century, they were the principal inhabitants of most of what is now Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and the northern Lesser Antilles. Taíno spirituality centered on the worship of zemis (spirits or ancestors). Deminan Caracaracol, a mythical hero or zemi of the ancient Indigenous Caribbean, was one of the quadruplet children of Itiba Cahubaba. Their travels brought many misadventures such as the painful gestation of a turtle on Deminan's back. (Wikipedia) Measures approximately 5" by 5" by 3". Vintage condition as shown. See photos.
