Description: Vintage Hasbro Direct GI Joe 1986 Mail-Away Serpentor & Air Chariot Set Complete This vintage original Hasbro Direct 1986 Mail-Away Serpentor & Air Chariot set is complete and in near mint condition! It was available from Hasbro Direct as a mail order set in 1986 and 1987. The variant figure and the translucent green snake were only available in this set. The Serpentor figure differs in several ways from the regular production Serpentor. I've shown a comparison in photo number two where you can see the differences between the two. The mail away figure, on the left, has a different snake mould on the chest. Additionally, the right wrist has much finer detail than the production figure and the belt buckle is somewhat different. The yellow color on the torso and waist section is lighter than the regular production figures as well. Finally, the mail away version is stamped "Made In China" on the back of the waist section while the regular production Serpentor is stamped "Made In Hong Kong". The regular production Serpentor figure on the right is for comparison only and is not included with this set. The mail away variant figure included with this set is in near mint condition! It has clean original color and gloss with only tiny spots of playwear. The gold details on these figures are incredibly fragile and are very susceptible to damage. The gold details on this figure are immaculate with none of the typical wear. His eyebrows and eyes and the details of the Cobra headpiece are completely undamaged. The fangs are all intact with a single tiny spot of playwear on the back of the lower left fang. The green snake details on the torso are mint. The yellow ribbing on the front of the torso is near perfect with a couple of tiny spots near his belt where the torso meets the waist section. The silver detail on his right wrist has only some light wear on its raised areas. His gloves and the two white fangs on his left hand are mint. The yellow areas of the gloves have no wear on the fingertips, palms or thumbs. The raised green belt detail on the waist section has only a few small spots on the back. The yellow ribbing on the front is completely undamaged. The legs are in beautiful condition with virtually no playwear at all on the green details. His boots are immaculate with no wear on the heels or on the sharp edges of the soles. The gold color is consistent throughout the figure with no discoloration or greening at all and the original factory gloss is undamaged. The knee and neck joints are tight. The elbow and shoulder joints have medium firmness. The O-ring is new and the waist joint is firm. The figure will hold any pose and easily stand unassisted. The elbows have no cracks or hairlines and the waist section is unbroken. The screws are original and rust free. The fragile thumbs have no cracks or stress marks. The footpeg holes are undamaged and fit a stand tightly. The SmallJoes figure stand is not included with the figure. The accessories are all original Hasbro and each is mint and undamaged. The cape is in amazing condition and the protective vinyl sleeve will be included with it. The cowl and ceremonial sword (dagger) are mint. The snake is mint and is the correct original translucent green for the 1986 mail-away set. Some guides refer to this snake as the mail away brown variant but it is, in fact, translucent green. This example has gorgeous color that I've shown in photo twelve. The material is still pliable and isn't dried out. The Air Chariot is in beautiful condition with no damage at all and no observable playwear. It has perfect original color and gloss with very clean labels! The guns, fins and handlebars are completely undamaged. The fan knob is still firmly in place and the fan spins freely. The snake head is undamaged and the bottom and top halves fit tightly together. It's attachment post has no cracks or stress marks. The front fairing is mint and the clips that hold it in place are unbroken with no stress marks. The file card is definitely the rarest part of this set! It is a white back and was issued only with the mail-away set. This example is not only in beautiful condition but is also completely uncut. It has no creasing or veining at all. The original gray color is clean and the white border is clean. It has a tiny spot of dark blue in the lower right corner but I believe this to be a misprint as I've seen this exact spot on other cards. The edges are undamaged and the corners are mostly solid with just a bit of softening. The reverse is clean and has some of the aging common to these rare white backs. The card has definitely never seen water, humidity or extreme heat and lays perfectly flat. The protective vinyl sleeve will be included with the card. This is an amazing original set! It is extremely difficult to put together. The variant figure is in beautiful condition and has mint original accessories. The Air Chariot is near perfect and the set includes its very rare uncut original white back file card! This is a rare set that no truly complete high grade vintage Hasbro GI Joe collection can be without! ThisMail-Away set and your purchase both deserve respectful packing.
