Hendrix was, of course, the most electrifying guitarist in the entire world, known already at this point for setting his upside-down Fender Stratocaster on fire at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. This show was a year before Hendrix headlined Woodstock and two years before his untimely and tragic death. The poster for the gig featured art from Rick Griffin, who was also known for his work with The Grateful Dead (the skull the eyeball is holding is nearly identical to the one on the front cover of Aoxomoxoa which came out in 1969), and became an iconic piece of art associated with Hendrix.
