Description: Vintage Marzi & Remy Pottery Glazed Stein with Pewter Lid Dominos Players For Your Vintage German Lidded Stein Collection-SteinCardPlaying1 Details Description: A great looking second half of 1900s (second half of 20th century) glazed pottery stein having a pewter lid with a flat floral thumb piece. The stein which has the M/R mark of Marzi & Remy on the bottom is undated but this mark was used from 1964 on. It has a colorful scene depicting two men and a woman seated at a table playing what looks like a dominos game. There is also uncolored scenes of two different houses one on each side of the colorful scene towards the back of the stein near the handle. The designs are very nice and the colorful one is particularly interesting. It is well done and shows the woman in a red dress with a blue apron and the men wearing hats and shorts. The entire colorful design is on a cobalt blue background. The uncolored designs show typical German homes with a walkway and crops in the foreground. The stein has a round base with straight onwards slanted sides ending in a plain rim supporting the round with a pointed dome metal lid. The stein has an applied handle on which the hinge for the lid is attached. It has a round recessed bottom with impressed marks under glaze. The mark consists of the letters M over R within a linear shape and the numbers 2350, and other impressed numbers and letters. The lid is marked with raised letters saying DBGM and additional letters, which we cannot make out, within a diamond shape. This is a stein having great appearance and style with off-white colored interior. A nice and substantial stein weighing about one pound and 13 ounces. A beautiful stein to add to your collection. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Stein was made in Germany. Size: Measures ~3 3/4" diameter at the base, ~2 3/4" diameter on top, ~5 1/4" at its widest including the handle, and is ~9 1/4" high to the top of the lid. The piece weighs about one pound and 13 ounces. Maker: Marzi & Remy. Marks: The stein has impressed marks on the bottom consisting of the letters M over R within a linear shape, the numbers 2350, and other impressed numbers and letters. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece of breweriana pottery with very nice decoration and in good original condition. It would make a nice addition to your collection of art pottery, lidded steins or beer related items. Condition: The piece is in good original condition and we believe it was probably never used and remains relatively clean and intact. It has no cracks, hairlines, repairs, or crazing to the glaze. The lid is intact and the hinge is solidly in place. It is slightly soiled and could probably benefit from a good cleaning. The only thing we see is a small chip to the edge of the table in the Dominos playing scene, which is difficult to see but is there. Because of the chip we are selling the stein “AS IS” at a fraction of its true value. Be that as it may, the stein will display very nicely in your collection.
