Description: ***********FOR PARTS/REPAIR - The ETA 2783 automatic movement keeps accurate time over its approximate 43 hour power reserve period and the date wheel rolls over perfectly as it should. However, while the screwdown crown unscrews and screws back down without issue and the crown/stem connection feels decently solid when it's in the final (time setting) position there is a bit of wiggle to it and when being wound it tends to skip, especially if done too fast. If wound slowly while applying outward pressure the severity of the skipping is reduced. Given the issues with the crown/stem and considering the movement's unknown service history at a minimum a complete overhaul is required.***********This vintage 1970's Nicolet, nearly identical to its more commonly seen Aquadive brethren, has under the damaged crystal what appears to be a near pristine blackish grey and maroon "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial. Majority, if not all, of the imperfections seen are on the crystal, not the dial. The lume, which remains fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a uniform warm buttermilk hue. The faded grey bezel shows wear and rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear and signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "WATERRESISTANT TESTED AT 20 ATU STAINLESS STEEL 10771 ANTICHOC." The inside of the case back is stamped "NICOLET WATCH CO." followed by "SWISS." The crystal needs to be replaced as there is significant scratching/gouging and cloudiness. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "NICOLET WATCH CO" stamped ETA 2783 automatic movement with quickset date function keeps accurate time and the date wheel rolls over at 12 am. The quickset date function works flawlessly by unscrewing the crown, pulling it out to the first position and then turning it clockwise until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an approximate 43 hour power reserve period. While the screwdown crown unscrews and screws back down without issue and the crown/stem connection feels decently solid when it's in the final (time setting) position there is a bit of wiggle to it and when being wound it tends to skip, especially if done too fast. If wound slowly while applying outward pressure the severity of the skipping is reduced. Given the issues with the crown/stem and considering the movement's unknown service history at a minimum a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 42 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. The lug to lug (in this case the front of the mid-case to the back of the mid-case) distance measures approximately 43 mm. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now.
