Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a 1st generation, rare Atlas desk stand from the 1940's era and perfect for just about any older vintage microphone. This DS-5 model was the industry standard for decades allowing it's user to mount just about any screw on mic or mic clip. These were quite hard to tip over regardless of what mic was sitting on top. Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Atlas data sheet. The DS-5 was an entry level cast iron desk stand for folks looking for an affordable, attractive and rugged platform. The DS-5 had the same overall design for the past 70 years except for when it was first introduced. The very first DS-5 has the deco 2 tier "waterfall" design as you can see giving it a lot of character and Atlas only made this 1st gen mic for a few years before changing the look to what you see now. These are pretty hard to come by today and as you can see this one is quite nice considering it's damn near 80 years old. This DS-5 desk stand was made in Brooklyn, NY. There is virtually no wear on the original black paint and one of the nicest I have personally seen. Way above average for a 1st gen DS-5. There are no rust stains on the bottom of the base but the 3 original felt pads look very good. Total length is 7 1/2 inches high x 6 inches wide. The chrome stem shows just lite wear. Again, you can use just about any mic clip or screw on mic as the threading is universal. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. This is perfect for the old Shure 55 "Fatboy" or any heavier mic because of it's wide, stable base and manufacture date. This stand is an easy 8 on a scale of 10.
