Description: Vintage solid sterling silver larger (approx. 1 5/8" tall with rotating bale; weight approx. 3.1 g) Cross pendant featuring classic Slavonic Orthodox "budded" design with image of the three-bar Savior's Cross marked with the IC XC Christogram. The reverse bears punch-style European silver marks, one of which displays the "925" print indicating the "sterling" purity of silver, and the other appears to be a maker's mark. In addition, the pendant was tested positive for the "sterling" purity. The item has vintage appearance with some signs of aging and wear that might include diminished quality of the artwork, deformations of its original shape, scratches, dents, and patches of discoloration/patina. The inside of the bale shows signs of wear consistent with long devotional wearing. The size and weight of the item are shown on the photographs for this listing. The obverse bears an image of the three-bar Suppedaneum cross. The three-bar cross is venerated as the true Savior's Cross in the Slavonic Orthodox and some Eastern Catholic churches. Such a cross has three horizontal crossbeams: the top one represents the "INRI" nameplate, and the bottom one, a footrest. The footrest crossbeam is depicted pointing up, toward Heaven, on Christ's right hand side where the Penitent thief, St. Dismas was crucified. The left and right side "budded" ends of the horizontal crossbar bear the Sacred Name of Jesus Christ inscribed as the "IC XC" Greek Christogram, the "IC" on the left, and the "XC" on the right. The top "budded" crossbar end displays a small symbol of the Sun or a star emitting rays of light. Such an image could symbolically represent Jesus as "the sun of righteousness" (Malachi 4:2) and His preaching, "I am the light of the world.
