Date of game was switched with the Broncos and rescheduled due to the Oakland A's chances of needing the Coliseum if they made the World Series.) Game 8 (10/31/71): Oakland Raiders - 20 vs. Kansas City Chiefs - 20Game 10 (11/21/71): Oakland Raiders - 34 vs. San Diego Chargers - 33 Please see all photos Game Notes: Saturday Night, September 4th, 1971 - 8 P.M. vs Niners: Playing SF, it was always heated any time these teams would meet. Preseason or not, this game was always featured and looked forward to around the Bay. Today would be no different with 53,696 filling the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum - for a preseason game! Both teams had made their respective AFC & NFC Championship Games in 1970, with both the Raiders and 49ers coming very close to an all Bay Area Super Bowl matchup. Raider fans always hate seeing any red on the field or in the stands, but it was the Niner fans that wouldn't be able to get the red out of their eyes after this game. Sunday, October 10th, 1971 - 1 P.M. vs Broncos (Game actually in Denver!): Note: This ticket is not a misprint. Rather, the Raiders and Broncos switched home games against each other in the '71 season due to the conflict of the A's being in the MLB playoffs, and their chance at needing to play a home game on this date if they made the 1971 World Series. So, this game was actually played in Denver with the Raiders as the visiting team. ("Wait, what!? But this ticket is a Raiders home ticket, right!?") Well, yes, it sure is. It was simply accepted for admission into the game they'd play against the Broncos in December in their only trip to Oakland. The Raiders would win that game as well by the way. So which game do we recap here? How about both! Well, the week 4 game in Denver on October 10th went down like this: In the most action he'd seen as a pro, Kenny Stabler would throw his first career touchdown to Raymond Chester and run for another on this day. (Does this ticket qualify as Stabler's first TD ticket!? Some believe so, as this ticket has sold as Stabler's first touchdown ticket. But hey, your guess is as good as mine!) Marv Hubbard would run all over the Broncos D for 71 yards. DB Jimmy Warren would have a pick 6 for the Raid-ahs. Legends abound, as Oakland simply outclassed Denver yet again. Clips and a video recap of this game played in Denver - courtesy of Comrade Dobler on YouTube can be found by searching: 1971 Raiders at Broncos week 4 As for the week 14 game in Oakland on Sunday, December 19th, which it seems this ticket was used for: The Raiders won 21-13. Lamonica throws for 1 TD to Raymond Chester. Pete Banaszak and Marv Hubbard would combine to stomp the Broncos, running all over them for 116 yards combined between the two. Raiders fans went home happy having taken out their rival on the last home game of the season. A video recap and clips of this game played in Oakland - courtesy of Comrade Dobler on YouTube can be found by searching: 1971 Broncos at Raiders week 14 Sunday, October 31st, 1971 - Halloween Day - 1 P.M. vs Chiefs: Legendary QB George Blanda would kick for two field goals and throw another, outdueling Hall of Famer Jan Stenerud's two FG's for KC. Legendary DB Jack Tatum would pick off a pass and return it 35 yards. Fred Biletnikoff scored on a 24 yard pass from Blanda in the 4th quarter to bring the Raiders within 3, and Blanda again would tie the game up at 20. OK, so Oakland and KC would kiss their respective sisters in a tie on this day, but the point was made yet again, no one was going to come into Oakland and push this team around, especially not the Chiefs. Oh, and Vegas got this one right, as the line was a 'Pick 'em' at game time. Sunday, November 21st, 1971 - 1 P.M. vs Chargers: The Chargers blow a 24-10 half-time lead as the Raiders storm back to win a squeaker. This would be Sid Gillman's last game as a Charger Head Coach. Lamonica threw for 190 yards and 3 touchdowns, as the Raiders rushing attack totaled 170 yards. As usual, Raiders wide receiver Fred Biletnikoff starred with 7 catches and 80 yards. After the game, SD bolted back to the airport. Ticket Condition : In my opinion, all tickets are in overall absolutely excellent condition considering their vintage age of 50+ years. I am not a professional grader, just a sports collector fanatic. Coloring of ticket most closely resembles the pinkish color on each photo of each individual ticket. Everyone's color settings on their monitors may be different, so the color might look slightly different in person than it does to you on a computer. Please zoom in and see all photos. SF game - Straight with great coloring that pops. I'm not seeing any creasing of note. Not seeing any staining of note. There is one mark jutting up front the top of the 49er's helmet that looks to be a printing mistake. Denver game - Straight with great coloring that pops. I'm not seeing any major creasing, and the only crease of note is very minor and on the top left of the ticket. Very light, hardly noticeable staining. KC game - Straight, great coloring that pops. Very little to note here. Again, very very light wear and not seeing any major creasing. A bit of a bent corner on bottom right. SD game - Stub is straight with great coloring that pops. I see two noticeable creases. One on the Raiders logo and below in the word Raiders. Very light staining / wear under the words 'San Diego'.
