This photograph captures a group of native boys and American soldiers in Papua, New Guinea, examining a captured 75mm anti-aircraft gun. The scene includes an Australian soldier taking advantage of a lull in the action to make a cup of tea. The Japanese forces had retreated, removing the breech block from the gun to prevent its use. This photo was taken during the final stages of the Papuan campaign against the Japanese on February 23, 1943.The Papuan campaign was a significant military operation during WWII, aimed at halting the Japanese advance in the Pacific. The campaign involved Australian and U.S. troops working together, often in harsh jungle conditions.
