Description: WW2 Italian Resistance Armband "Giustizia e Libertà" (GL) Partisan Tricolour Brassard This handmade reproduction armband is made from ecru, green and red cotton sections sewn with off-white thread. It features The "G" and "L" letters for "Giustizia e Libertà" hand stamped in ink plus the flaming sword emblem and two stars. This armband is roughly 16" x 5.5" Giustizia e Libertà (English: Justice and Freedom) was an Italian anti-fascist resistance movement, active from 1929 to 1945. Giustizia e Libertà had been forced to cease public operations when German troops occupied France in 1940. Its members were dispersed but largely reconstituted as the Action Party (Partito d'Azione) in German-occupied Italy following the Armistice of 1943. The military arms of the organisation, the partisan brigades, were still referred to as Giustizia e Libertà. Giustizia e Libertà brigades were regarded as professional military units, which drew fighters from every social class. In the twenty months of the war, their units sustained 4,500 overall casualties, among them the greater portion of their leaders. The top, bottom and side edges are turned and machine-sewn. There will be rough edges and loose threads etc on the inside. Wartime manufactured armbands were turned around in short order, adding to the look. The armband comes with a safety pin to attach to the upper arm. Overall, a great period-looking partisan armband. Great for re-enacting events or display. If you are buying the armband from Italy, please contact me before purchase as tracking and signed for delivery will be required due to numerous losses in the Italian postal system.
