Description: An original WW2 "RESTRICTED" LUFTWAFFE map of FRANCE featuring PARIS and the vital stretch of the RIVER SEINE towards LE HAVRE which marked the 'finish line' for the BATTLE of NORMANDY. Only when the Allies had cleared all German forces the West bank of the Seine was OPERATION OVERLORD finally over. There is an intriguing pencil flightpath linking BERNAY (in Normandy) and TOURS (on the River Loire), via ORLEANS. TOURS had seen a large German military presence ever since the fall of France, and was heavily bombed by the Allies in 1944, so this flightpath may have been plotted around this time using ORLEANS as a diversion around Allied air cover. It's an official composite, consisting of four smaller maps entitled PARIS, REIMS, TOURS and DIJON, and it bears the heading "Nur für den Dienstgebrauch" (equivalent to a "RESTRICTED" British military map). All four source maps are 'AERONAUTIC' editions (FLIEGERAUSGABE / FLIEGERKARTE), giving locations of airfields etc, and they have been mounted on a 'coated' backing sealed with a thin paper overlapping edge. The coating would have offered some small degree of basic protection from the elements, although as is often the case, the thin paper edging has largely deteriorated. Scale 1:500,000 Overall condition is very good for its age and service use (see photos). The map came to me with a small number of Luftwaffe maps of Europe which I am currently listing. Measures approximately 93cm x 91cm. Will be shipped as per its existing fold lines. Please see my other WW2 (and WW1) maps, documents, photos etc Seller's Ref - TG1024
