The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Franz Heigermoser Franz was a Private in the Army and was born on September 29, 1925. He went Missing in Action in former Bessarabia (primarily portions of Moldova and Ukraine) in April of 1944. His remains were not found and on June 1, 1956, he was legally declared deceased.
