Yoenis Céspedes Milanés, nicknamed "La Potencia", is a Cuban-born former professional baseball outfielder. He burst onto the big league scene in 2012, for the Oakland Athletics, batting a team-leading .292 with 23 home runs, 82 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 129 games to finish second in the American League Rookie of the Year balloting. Signed as a free agent on March 3, 2012, the Cuba native led the A's in both on-base (.356) and slugging (.505) percentage. The 5-10, 210-pound outfielder earned American League Player of the Week July 16 after hitting .571 (8 for 14) with two home runs and six RBI in a three-game series in Minnesota following the All-Star Break. He would later be named AL Rookie of the Month for September. In the 2012 AL Division Series against Detroit. Céspedes batted a team-leading .316 with a double, two RBI and two stolen basis.
