Manufacturers and suppliers of HVAC equipment and parts recommend installation and servicing only by licensed HVAC professionals. Many if not most suppliers of HVAC equipment and parts will only sell to licensed HVAC contractors. A significant amount of education, training, and hands-on experience is required to become competent installing and servicing HVAC Equipment. A Licensed HVAC Professional typically must complete this training and apprenticeship successful and pass tests to prove their competence. While professionals can also make mistakes, it is MUCH more likely someone trying to fix their own equipment will have an issue. A high percentage of my parts are sold to other professionals or businesses that buy parts to resell…..it’s been years since a professional purchased one of my parts and asked to return it. Unfortunately people trying to fix their own equipment often purchase the wrong part, or they misdiagnose the issue and buy a part that was not what they needed to fix their equipment, or they install it incorrectly. While it is possible for someone who is not an HVAC Professional to fix their own equipment- it is significantly more likely someone trying to fix their own equipment will have issues than a licensed, HVAC professional.
